Adaptive Cycling

is a sport that recognizes and respects that not all individuals are able to ride a two-wheel cycle.

Common styles of adaptive cycles include:

  • Handcycles for riders with limited or no lower extremity mobility
  • Recumbent Foot Tricycles for riders with balance or upper extremity mobility limitations
  • Tandems for riders who may have a visual or auditory impairment, cognitive deficit, or limited strength

What TCAC Riders are Saying

You helped us explore the idea that I could bike again after two heart attacks and losing the use of my right hand and arm. You gave me the opportunity to try out various trikes and you gave us valuable advice on which type of trike might work best for my adaptive cycling needs.....I’m getting much-needed exercise doing something I thought I would never be able to do again. And we’re having so much fun!
— Marylin G.
Thanks to Twin Cities Adaptive Cycling I am able to stay on a legitimate exercise regimen that allows me to be outside in the fresh air, experience the Greenway and the great City Lakes that Minneapolis has to offer. The staff and volunteers are dedicated and incredibly helpful. It was great to be able to ride a bike again! I can’t wait for next season.”
— James A.
Before Jared’s accident, Jared was always outdoors. He loved hiking, skiing, rock climbing, cycling, and more. After his accident, those activities became extremely difficult. As Jared’s wife, it was painful to see his discouragement from not feeling able to participate in the sports that he loves. When we learned of TCAC, we learned that Jared could get a part of his life back. TCAC helped us get outside, get moving, and enjoy quality time together.
